Are you widowed at age 60?🌸
Throughout my career, I always felt bad after talking to applicants who didn’t realize they could have filed for their widow’s benefits earlier. It bothered me to see anyone lose out on the benefits they’ve earned simply because they didn’t have the right information.
I want you to take a moment and really hear this. If you are widowed and 60 years old, please repeat after me:
🗣️ “I am eligible to file for widow’s benefits at age 60.”
🗣️ “I don’t have to wait until age 62 to file for widow’s benefits.”
🗣️ “If I meet the factors of entitlement, I can receive widow’s benefits at age 60.”
It’s true! Even with all the information the SSA publishes, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spoken with applicants who simply didn’t know. The baseline is age 60, but please understand that “meeting the factors of entitlement” is where things get complicated.
Whether it involves rules for surviving divorced spouses, disability, or annual earnings limits, the regulations are dense and often confusing. I don’t want you to miss out because of a technicality you didn’t know existed.
Follow me for future updates as I help you navigate these complex rules.
